On April 20, 2018 the City of Cumming kicked off its new Fridays at the Fairgrounds event which is meant to draw citizens from around the county into the downtown area on the 3^rd Friday of each month during the warm weather months (5 p.m. to 10 p.m.)

With a variety of food from dozens of vendors and food trucks, live music and dancing, hot air balloon rides and a giant cruise-in car show, the inaugural event – held at the Cumming Fairgrounds – was a major success drawing in over 4,000 visitors.

As part of the Cumming City Council’s planned “vibrancy project”, with the long-term goal of creating more of the “downtown city atmosphere” you find in the nearby cities of Suwanee or Milton, I think that this event will serve as an excellent launch pad for future events.

In addition to Fridays at the Fairgrounds, the Cumming City Council has initiated Food Truck Fridays which will be held on the 1st Friday of each month (5 p.m. to 9 p.m.) with a plan to offer three entrée trucks and a dessert truck.

It is obvious that the Cumming City Council has heard the voices of the community in regard to its desire to have a vibrant “city center” similar to those in surrounding areas and is taking steps to create that venue!
